Greek 'aphorme': a jumping off point, a place to start. Please note that these 'aphormai' are not class notes, or review notes, or a 'cheat-sheet', but a simple and brief checklist of some of the names, terms etc. that come under the main topics we have covered, keyed to some of the relevant chapters in Robert Graves, McKendrick's 'Greek Stones Speak', and the Source book, as well as Peter Levi's 'Atlas of the Greek World' (available on reserve). Primary sources are listed, sort of in a middle column, at appropriate points - texts that are on our Reading Schedule are printed in bold, other texts where you might go for additional reading are printed in non-bold. You should also plan to make extensive use of the indices to the two volumes of Pausanias. Use the Aphormai as their name suggests, as jumping off points or prompts into your own notes, and into other texts for further study. To view or print Aphormai 1 as a pdf file CLICK HERE. There are three pages of Aphormai which together cover the class from the mid-term to the end. To view or print Aphormai 4 as a pdf file CLICK HERE. |
