Ancient Greek Religion
Who We Are & How to Reach Us
GreekReligion.org is an independent resource for the study of ancient Greek religion. It began life as a set of teaching materials and has grown, over the years, into a curated library of links, notes and articles covering the gods and their cults, sanctuaries and sacred sites, festivals, oracles and divination, myth and the primary sources.
The site is maintained by a small editorial team. Every resource we list is checked for reliability and scholarly value; our own articles are written to be accurate, readable and useful both to students meeting Greek religion for the first time and to those returning to it.
The editorial team
Eleni Vasourakis-Hale
Founding Editor
Eleni studied Classical Archaeology at Edinburgh and spent two seasons with the British School at Athens. She founded GreekReligion.org to collect, vet and organise the best printed and online resources for the study of Greek cult, and still edits every section of the site.
Dr. Marcus Thornbury Pyke
Senior Editor - Cult & Ritual
Marcus wrote his doctorate on sacrificial practice in the sanctuaries of the Peloponnese. He writes for the site on the gods, on cult and on the practical mechanics of Greek worship - altars, offerings, priesthoods and the sacred calendar.
Sophia Renzetti-Doukas
Contributing Editor - Sanctuaries & Epigraphy
Sophia is an epigrapher and field archaeologist. She covers sacred sites, sacred laws and the inscriptions that document them, and has a particular interest in the lesser-known Arcadian and island sanctuaries.
Thomas Ainsley Croft
Contributing Editor - Myth & Literature
Thomas reads Greek tragedy and the travel-writer Pausanias for a living. He writes about the places where myth and religion meet in the texts, and keeps our reading lists and bibliographies current.
